A Must See for All Residents and Visitors of Dhaka ...Suhrawardy Udyan's Independence Museum
The people of Dhaka have the wonderful opportunity to visit all the historical places of significance within the city. A visit to see the Wall which portrays the history of independence is a very exciting experience for all, whether you are young or old.
The wall called the "Janatar Deyal" has pictorials made in Terracotta by artists of Bangladesh depicting the history for people to visualize the incidents that took place during the war of Independence. A visual lesson in history for the new generation.

Underground, below the Glass Tower Monument and the mural on the 'Janatar Deyal', there is a Museum of Independence which depicts the struggle for independence of Bangladesh. The history of the nation since Mughal times to independence in 1971 is displayed there. The Museum is the only underground museum in Bangladesh. It is situated in the 67 acres complex at Suhrawardy Udyan, at the sight were Sheikh Mujibur Rahman gave his historic speech declaring the struggle for independence. It is also the historic place where the Pakistan Army surrendered after the Liberation War. This museum was opened to the public on 25th March 2015 on the 45th Independence Day of Bangladesh. There is a collection of more than 300 historic pictures in 144 glass panels showing the history of the country.
There are terracotta, pictures and paper clippings of the war of Liberation also on display. Copies of foreign newspapers showing different events of the war are kept in the gallery. It also has some pictures of significant archaeological sites and monuments of Bangladesh . A replica of the table upon which the document of surrender was signed by the eastern commander of Pakistan Army Lieutenant General Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi is also kept in this gallery.
The underground museum is part of a master plan, which includes a multimedia projection theater, an amphitheater, three water pools, the Shikha Chirantor (the Eternal Flame) which symbolizes the eternity of Bengali nationalism , a mural on the struggle for independence and other ancillary facilities. The complex has a 155 seating auditorium within the complex.

The Tower of Light is a 50 meter high tower made of stacked glass panels. The museum is situated right beneath the tower of light. The underground museum has a fountain at the center. The water falls from over the ceiling of the terrace.
